Moovin’ ‘n Groovin’

The 11 pieces in this book, mostly in jazz or jazz-related styles, are immediately accessible as enjoyable musical experiences for both performer and listener.

The level of skill required for performance varies between grade 4,( If Only) and grade 7, ( A Touch of Spain) but any enthusiastic musician (is there any other kind?) with reasonable keyboard facility and reading skills will find the tricky bits enjoyably surmountable.

A few of the pieces in jazz style have lead sheets and tonal ‘route maps’ indicating chord/key relationships and related modes.  This material is intended for the improviser and for the performer who requires guidance in these matters.  For those seeking a more detailed treatment of improvisational techniques I recommend my book Improvisation in Concept and Practice.

Groovin’ On

The 13 pieces in this book, as in its predecessor, ‘Moovin ‘n Groovin’, are mostly in jazz or jazz-related styles. They, too, are immediately accessible as enjoyable musical experiences

for both performer and listener.

The level of technical skill required for performance varies between grade 3 (Conchita)

and grade 8+ (A Wandering Waltz).

Takin’ It Easy has an ‘improvised’ chorus as an illustration of what might be done with the original chord progressions and melodic ‘feel’.

The CD which accompanies the book offers opportunities for playing along with instrumental backing. Each piece is performed as a piano solo  with backing - mostly bass and drums. The backing track alone is then given with a two-bar count in. Every second track, therefore, is a backing track

STILL GROOVIN'

The pieces in this book, as in its predecessors, Moovin ‘n Groovin’ and Groovin’ On are mostly in jazz or jazz-related styles. Five of the pieces, however, are stylistically more broadly based, ranging from the foot-tapping reel, Feintly Irish, to the latin passion of the Tango.  All of the pieces are immediately accessible as enjoyable musical experiences for both performer and listener.

The level of technical skill required for performance varies between grade 4 (Green Willows) and grade 8+ (Sevens and Eights).

The  CD which accompanies the book offer opportunities for playing along with instrumental backing.  Each piece is presented as a piano solo . The backing track alone is then given with a two-bar count in.  Every second track, therefore, is a backing track. A second CD in which all 15 pieces are performed with backing is included.

Still Groovin' is the third book in the Groovin' series. There are 15 pieces in the book representing a wide variety of styles.
